Dr. Tichenor Achieves Integration with DiCentral

The Dr. G.H. Tichenor Antiseptic Company has a long history having been founded in New Orleans in 1905, and encouraged by adoption of Dr. Tichenor’s germ-killing formula and pioneering antiseptic surgery techniques developed during the Civil War. The company received a devastating blow from Hurricane Katrina: they lost a large percentage of their employees as well as key customers and contracts.

Today, the company is successfully recovering and has received new large contracts. It is focused on streamlining costs, processing times, and overall production processes. Dr. Tichenor Company is one of DiCentral’s long time customers, which has achieved significant cost savings and supply chain efficiencies by adopting our fully hosted EDI solution, DiWeb, to connect with the large network of retailers and distributors for their products. The company also takes advantage of other Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions like Yahoo! Stores to rapidly deploy online shopping capability without having a large IT staff.

The Challenge: Missing Integration Links

Most SaaS solutions on the market today are point solutions that fill a specific application need for E-commerce, CRM, accounting, etc. In order to fully operate, companies need integration between SaaS solutions into their existing enterprise applications that are installed in-house, or hosted elsewhere.

However, integration is often a complex task that requires significant IT staff and capabilities in terms of security, networks, reliability, etc. Most companies choose not to do integration in-house, and instead, rely on data entry/accounting clerks to print out reports from one system and manually re-key them into another. This is a slow and error-prone process that requires extra head-count just to move data.

In Dr. Tichenor Company’s case, online orders from Yahoo! Store have to be manually downloaded and entered into the local Sage MAS 90 accounting system. From there, the credit card processing and fulfillment processes take place.

Our Solution: Hosted Integration of SaaS Applications

Dr. Tichenor asked DiCentral in May 2008 to assess the situation and recommend solutions. Since DiCentral already provides a proven hosted EDI integration solution for Dr. Tichenor, the obvious answer was to extend our product to provide a general hosted integration for SaaS applications through standards other than EDI, such as XML, flat files, etc.

The DiCentral team rapidly implemented an XML-based integration with Yahoo! Stores that allows Dr. Tichenor to integrate their E-commerce application with internal accounting applications. Our solution leverages as much as possible existing EDI infrastructure, which significantly lowers IT investment, and reduces disruptions in business operations.
Results:
The solution from DiCentral eliminated the manual process of downloading and re-entering orders. This allowed Dr. Tichenor’s company to streamline processes so that they can redeploy their staff to higher value activities. At the same time, our solution leverages existing EDI integration infrastructure so that Dr. Tichenor’s company can continue to take advantage of low cost SaaS applications without having to invest additional IT integration resources.
