DiCentral Helps Booming 3PL Business Grow

Suppliers across America are outsourcing their warehousing and shipping to third party logistics providers (3PL’s) like Capacity LLC.

“As a third party logistics provider, we receive our customers’ merchandise from their manufacturers,” says Thomas Campbell, Capacity LLC’s chief strategic officer and founding partner. “We store them in both physical and electronic inventory.”

Capacity receives orders from customers electronically – through the online application they offer, through EDI, or via program links to accounting packages at Web sites. “We pick the orders, pack ‘em, and ship ‘em,” says Campbell. “And in the case of EDI, we’re the primary point of contact for the EDI retailers; so we receive PO’s directly from WalMart or Sephora or Neiman Marcus. We then acknowledge them. And when we ship, we’ll send the ASN’s and do the invoicing on behalf of our clients. Business is booming for 3PL’s. Some companies can’t afford expensive supply chain management systems. Most of our clients are companies with excellent products and strong brands, but they don’t have a core competency in logistics. By outsourcing to a 3PL, retail suppliers can now find a controllable way to model their fulfillment costs. These companies can now focus on marketing and merchandizing.”

Retailer Anchor Blue Stores Sings Our Praises

Kudos For DiCentral Customer Service

There are compliments, and then there are compliments – especially when they come from a 20-year veteran in EDI. So when Mary Felker of Hub Distributing Inc. says DiCentral’s customer service is “fantastic… incredible… the best,” we thought it was worth reporting.

Mary Felker is EDI coordinator for Hub Distributing which owns the Anchor Blue retail stores and the Levi’s by MOST outlet stores.

“When I started here, we had seven vendors – three in production and four in test,” says EDI veteran Felker. “Today we have 205 vendors in production and 85 in test.”

Felker started her career in the grocery business which was a pioneer in EDI. Felker’s career began in the early 80s. She has been on national EDI standards committees and has had significant experience in working with EDI software providers. When she left the grocery industry and joined the retail industry, her goal was to develop and streamline the EDI program at Hub Distributing. I try to match our vendors who have no EDI experience with the software company that I feel best fits their needs," says Felker. "We work with a lot of factories, and DiCentral software is easy for them to use. I’ve been in this business a long time, and I’ve worked with many software companies. For many software vendors, once you sign on the dotted line, customer service disappears. That didn’t happen with DiCentral. And that’s the reason I stay with DiCentral.”

Although DiCentral’s sales and software are excellent, says Felker, it’s customer service reps like Eric Smith who keep Felker coming back, asking to hook up more and more vendors. “Eric is responsive,” she says. “I can’t implement 200 trading partners without having great people to work with. He doesn’t end with just getting the ASN to me in a test. He follows it all the way through to make sure the vendor is happy and trained. That is so unusual. He’s awesome. Bottom line, says Felker. She has to have an EDI service, that’s reasonably priced, has great customer service, and it has to be easy. “DiCentral is all three,” she says. “Whenever a vendor in this country or elsewhere asks me recommend an EDI vendor, I strongly urge them to use DiCentral. It’s truly a partnership.”
